Jillian Robinson – Economic Development and Planning
What appealed to me about the BA in Business Studies with Tourism Management in LIT was that the 6-month work placement during the programme gave me the opportunity to experience the real-world of the Tourism Industry and apply what I was learning in the classroom to real-life business situations.
I went on to complete a MA by research within the field of economics and tourism. This comprehensive research study involved assessing the economic contribution of tourism in a rural tourism hub in Ireland, namely Ballyhoura and my research from this study was published in academic journals and conference proceedings throughout Europe.
At present I am working within the economic development and planning directorate of Limerick City and County Council. My main focus of work involves co-coordinating EU funded projects which involve teams of multiple stakeholders across Europe. Limerick City and County Council is constantly evolving and our vision is to ensure Limerick is the desired location for business development, cultural enrichment and educational opportunity
I really enjoy my role and the work is highly rewarding. I have the ability to make changes that have a huge impact to the city and people of Limerick.
For me, it started in LIT
